Dexia AM commits to being a responsible asset manager

While business is, of course, all about value creation, Dexia Asset Management has always believed it is sustainable value creation that makes the difference. Economic growth and profits can only be sustainable when businesses behave responsibly and look beyond the immediate present by giving appropriate consideration to social, environmental and governance aspects.

This belief relates not only to our Sustainable & Responsible Investment policies: we also practise what we preach. Dexia Asset Management’s commitment to being a responsible asset manager has deep roots in our corporate culture and business model. We believe that this innate responsible and sustainable perspective constitutes a valuable distinguishing edge. It makes us steer clear of risky short-term behaviour and helps us anticipate influential trends; most of all, however, it strengthens our position as a reliable, trustworthy partner, capable of creating sustainable value for clients in a rapidly changing world.

This commitment to sustainability is driven from the top and shared at all levels of our organisation.

By remaining at the forefront of Sustainable and Responsible Investment. By making our traditional investments benefit from the relevant sustainability insights that impact companies’ long-term results. By being an active owner, engaging with companies to promote sustainable behaviour.
• Responsibility towards our employees – by fostering a desirable workplace and welcoming diversity. By investing in training and empowering employees to develop their talents and contribute to the kind of creativity and long-term commitment that thrive in a responsible corporate culture in which people feel valued and inspired to excellence.
• Responsibility towards the community – by building on our long tradition of responsible citizenship, particularly in the area of community service, where we encourage staff and give them time off to do voluntary work.
• Responsibility towards the environment – by practising environmental stewardship all along the value chain.

Dexia AM: engagement report

As a pioneer in Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) since 1996, and a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2006, Dexia AM believes that economic growth can only be sustainable when companies behave responsibly, i.e., when they look beyond the immediate present and integrate social, environmental and governance (ESG) aspects in their strategy. Not only purely financial criteria such as turnover and margin growth influence a company’s long-term value: by taking other criteria into consideration, one can identify elements that impact a company’s long-term value and competitive positioning but which are not always detected in traditional financial analysis. Dexia Asset Management is committed to acting in the best long-term interests of its clients and, therefore, it wants to incorporate ESG issues into its ownership practices and be an active owner.
